Lime / linden honey - what is worth knowing

Its color ranges from light straw to amber, depending on the honeydew admixture. It smells like linden flowers. Bees produce it from pollen of linden flowers, which are rather difficult to find since linden trees are rarely found growing in larger clusters. This makes lime / linden honey extremely valuable.


Color, state and taste of linden honey


In its liquid state, linden honey has usually very light straw color, but can also be greenish or olive green. After crystallization, however, it becomes creamy or golden yellow. Its taste is slightly sweet with a hint of mint, slightly burning. In its liquid state, linden honey is similar in texture and color to castor oil. As a result of crystallization, it takes a fine-grained form.

Linden / lime honey, thanks to its rich composition, is considered by many experts to be the best-tasting honey. Linden honey includes essential oils, flavonoids, tannins and bitter compounds. The largest group of compounds found in linden honey are carbohydrates. Glucose and fructose are valuable energy sources that provide about 300 kcal in 100 grams of honey. In linden honey you can also find beta-carotene, which is responsible for its color. There are also micro and macro elements, such as potassium, magnesium, chlorine, manganese and B vitamins. It contains a lot of antioxidants and enzymes that destroy bacteria and microorganisms. It also has an antibiotic effect. Due to the diversity of ingredients, linden honey is widely used in nutrition and in medicine.

Linden honey, similarly to the infusion of linden flowers, helps with colds, flu, cough, inflammation of the nasal mucosa, bronchi and pneumonia. It has antispasmodic, antitussive and expectorant properties. It is considered to be the best remedy against diseases associated with high fever.
